A motorist has copped two infringement notices after triggering a four-car pile-up on the Midland Highway at Epsom on Tuesday afternoon.

A Nissan Patrol ran into a Nissan X-Trail, which was pushed into a Holden Commodore, and it subsequently hit a Hyundai hatchback.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the highway, near Centenary Court, about 3.40pm.

It is understood two people were taken to hospital, but suffered only minor injuries.
The offending motorist, the driver of the Patrol, was fined for following too close and failing to wear a seatbelt.
The four drivers were tested at the scene for drugs and alcohol, but all were clear.
Two vehicles were towed from the scene.
