Australian racing's most prized trophy has visited Bendigo, in a nod to the area that provided its gold.
This year's Melbourne Cup was made with gold from the Fosterville mine - the first time gold from the Bendigo area has been used to create the trophy.
"This year's cup is particularly significant as we recognise the importance of ensuring the legacy continues in the face of disruption and challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic," Kirkland Lake Gold chief executive officer Tony Makuch said.
The cup's visit to Bendigo came one week before the race that stops the nation, and one day ahead of the Bendigo Cup.
