POLICE are treating the fire as suspicious.
Bendigo Detective Senior Constable Misha Oldmeadow said it appeared there was trail that led to the car that had been set alight.
He asked anyone with information to call the Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit on 5448 1300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Detective Senior Constable Oldmeadow said police were particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw anything between 9.30am and 10am when the fire was reported.

POLICE will investigate a fire that completely burnt out a car off Pentlands Road at Mandurang on Tuesday.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze before 10am. The fire was next to a dam in a public area.
Three Country Fire Authority trucks were on scene, along with one Fire Forest Management unit.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within five minutes.
Mandurang firefighter Don Morgan said no one was at the scene when crews arrived.
He said there was no indication as to what started the fire.
Police are now on scene and will investigate the cause.
Firefighters believe the vehicle was a Mazda hatchback.
The car has been completely burnt out.
