BENDIGO Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following a car fire in Strathfieldsaye earlier this month.
A stolen Toyota RAV 4 was burnt in Ryalls Lane about 3am on October 17.
CCTV footage showed an unknown offender setting fire to a trail of accelerant, which led to the vehicle.
When the flames reached the vehicle, it became engulfed and there was an explosion.
The offender was seen running away from the blaze to a light-coloured vehicle, believed to be a Toyota CH-R, and drove away from the scene.
Police released images similar to that of the burnt vehicle and the car that was driven away from the scene.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators with their enquiries should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
