Demolition of Bendigo council's former Lyttleton Terrace offices started on Tuesday morning, paving the way for the construction of the $90 million Bendigo GovHub.

From about 8am, demolition crews led by East Bendigo construction firm Fairbrother, began tearing down the former main building, home to the customer service centre and staff offices.

The GovHub will accommodate 1000 desks, with City of Greater Bendigo staff joined by state government employees from the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, Department of Transport, Parks Victoria and the Portable Long Service Authority, among others.
Council approved the sale of the site in May, with the City of Greater Bendigo to become a tenant of the constructed building at a cost of $35.6 million over 40 years.
The state government said it expects the project to be completed by mid-2022.
