Crews are tackling a haystack fire at Nareewillock, north of Charlton.
The fire was reported on a property along the Boort-Charlton Rd about 2.30pm.
When firefighters arrived there were two haystacks fully alight.
Police were called in for traffic control
The Country Fire Authority said it took crews an hour to bring the flames under control.
There was no immediate threat to surrounding properties, but the CFA said crews would remain on scene for some time.
"Smoke will be visible from nearby roads and communities in particular the Boort Charlton Road with smoke impacting the road," officials said in a community information release.
"Drivers may have reduced visibility."
