RACING Victoria (RV) stewards have received a report from Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) confirming that a prohibited substance has been detected in a urine sample collected from the Nick Smart trained racehorse, Mr Coyne.

The report relates to a post-race urine sample taken from Mr Coyne after the gelding finished second in the Ecycle Solutions BM120 Steeplechase over 3200 metres at Ballarat on August 23, 2020.
RASL reported that the urine sample was shown to contain Caffeine and its metabolites Theophylline, Paraxanthine and Theobromine (which are considered to be central nervous system stimulants, and therefore prohibited substances on race day in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing).
The Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) also reported that it had detected Caffeine and its metabolites Theophylline, Paraxanthine and Theobromine within the reserve portion of the urine sample.
Stewards initially informed Smart, who previously trained in Ballarat, of the irregularity on September 30, 2020. He was informed today (Tuesday) of the confirmatory findings and that stewards are continuing their investigation.
