Success coach Jenny Delaney spent months talking with waitstaff and others in the city's eateries as she wrote Taking Your Life From OK to Awesome.
Some of those she met gave permission for their stories to be included in the guide to breaking down barriers around self-limiting beliefs.
More news:
"They are ordinary people I considered to have gone from OK to awesome," Ms Delaney said.
"When you ask a question of someone - one that forces them to think about what's worked for them - that energises them. It's much better than asking about what problems they have today."
Cafes are some of the best places for talking about success, Ms Delaney said.
"When I got my qualifications as a coach I had a room that I rented but I found it suited my clients if we went to a local coffee shop," she said.
Ms Delaney said her book was for anyone who decided that even though their lives were alright they might struggle with a challenge or two.
The book details strategies everyone can use, regardless of what they might want to achieve.
"That notion of 'awesome' will look different for everybody," Ms Delaney said.
"The conventional awesome for someone in my age group, for example, will be a self-funded retiree with beautiful children and grand-children, going on overseas trips, all of that.
"It can be that for some people. For others it might be knowing everything there is to know about ants. Whatever the passion is, if you are following that, that too is awesome."
Ms Delaney became a success coach upon retiring from teaching and said the book was full of ideas and experiences that she had come across in that time.
"I've thought a lot about the main things I've learnt. One of them was about the 'laws of life', like the idea that you get what you give," she said.
The book can help people work out how to get their best, decide what they really want from life, how to set goals and stick to them, what resources are available and dealing with the inevitable obstacles that arise.
"Because if you think you are going to have a smooth journey, guess what: you are soon going to be disappointed," Ms Delaney said.
People can purchase Taking Your Life From OK to Awesome from Ms Delaney's business website at www.thrivesuccesscoaching.com.au
She encouraged people to join her for a Zoom workshop on 4 November at 7pm, titled Learning to Love Me.
