This week we caught up with one of the region's most well known players, Axedale Golf Club's Lex Johnstone.
Johnstone has been playing for many years and truly loves every aspect of the game, whether it's winning club championships at Axedale or having a beer with his mates after a round.
Handicap: Scratch
Home club: Axedale Golf Club
How long have you been playing?: I've been playing for 45 years. Mum and Dad were both golfers so I would tag along and play with them when I was younger.
Ball: Titleist Pro V1
Clubs: Taylormade irons, driver and an Odyssey putter.
Favourite hole: Axedale's par-five seventh, the best par-five in Bendigo. It's a good hole that requires three solid shots to get on the green.
Favourite shot on the course: I love putting as the greens at Axedale provide a good challenge.
Best score: 65 off the stick in the Axedale Club Championships (four-under par).
Best golf memory: Definitely winning country week a couple times with the Bendigo and Goulburn Valley crews. It's a fantastic event and it felt great having success down in Melbourne.
Favourite professional: Karrie Webb, the women professionals play golf that's a bit more realistic for normal players to learn from.
Current goal: Just to keep playing at Axedale with my mates and look forward to getting back in the clubhouse after a round to have a beer with everyone.
