Bendigo Health has warned anyone with asthma to make sure they are using their preventer regularly and have a reliever available at all times.
It comes as thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast to hit central Victoria early on Thursday morning.
Bendigo Health warned thunderstorm asthma could be caused by a combination of high pollen levels, thunderstorms and strong winds, in a post on Facebook.
The post said the current pollen season would be combined with windy and stormy weather over the next few days.
It warned that in the right weather pollen grains could absorb moisture in the atmosphere, then explode into tiny particles.
When the wind scattered these, they could be inhaled, potentially causing severe - potentially fatal - asthma attacks.
OTHER NEWS:
Thunderstorm asthma can also affect those who have not had asthma previously. Those with hayfever are particularly at risk.
The grass pollen forecast is low for the northern country and north central districts over the next few days.
