The state government funds will allow the school to plan for upgrades, after years of parents and leaders highlighting its need as Maiden Gully grew.
Principal Craig Arrowsmith said he hoped to focus on building first-class teaching and learning spaces.
The school currently has about 570 students enrolled. In 2019, Mr Arrowsmith said its infrastructure needs were the most pressing in Greater Bendigo.
The funding will allow the school to consult with the school community and design decision-makers, to get the project shovel-ready for when funding is allocated in a state budget.
Mr Arrowsmith said it was exciting times for the school moving forward.
"This has been something that the community have really rallied behind," Mr Arrowsmith said.
"It's going to be an exciting time for the school moving forward.
"We're looking forward to it, the students are excited."
