An 18-year-old man has faced court, charged over a Bendigo crash that left a 16-year-old boy dead and another teenager fighting for his life.

Strathfieldsaye resident Timothy Werps appeared at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning via video link from the police station cells.
He is charged with culpable driving causing death, negligently causing serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury.

Charge sheets obtained by the Bendigo Advertiser show Mr Werps is accused of driving at a dangerous speed.
Mr Werps was charged on Tuesday, following the fatal collision on McCrae Street in the early hours of Monday morning.
Sixteen-year-old Goornong boy Jye Eiffert died at the scene after the car in which he was travelling crashed into a tree about 3.15am.

An 18-year-old Bendigo West man suffering critical injuries was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
Mr Werps made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to again appear at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court next March.
The court heard it was his first time in custody.
