Kyara Orr, 19, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court last week when she pleaded guilty to 30 charges including recklessly causing injury and theft.

The court heard about 4pm on May 16 this year, Orr was captured on CCTV footage entering a store in Eaglehawk.

She collected a number of items, believed to be worth about $200, and left the store without paying.

The court heard then about 11pm on May 25 this year, Orr entered a Kangaroo Flat store with two other women.

Orr was captured on CCTV footage grabbing a number of items and proceeding to the checkout.

The group purchased some items and a worker requested to look inside Orr's bag. Orr ignored her but the staff member made more attempts to check inside the bag.

Orr pushed past the worker but another worker grabbed the bag. Orr then became verbally aggressive and punched one of the staff members to the left side of the face.

The worker's glasses came off her face and as she attempted to pick them up, Orr punched the worker twice at the back of the head.

Another worker saw the assault and physically intervened. He was able to recover the bag but then Orr turned to him and punched him multiple times to the head.

Orr also spat at the man before leaving the scene. The whole incident was captured on CCTV footage.

The court heard then about 3.15pm on June 1 this year, Orr entered another Kangaroo Flat store.

She grabbed a number of items from the clothing and cosmetics department, and hid the items inside a reusable shopping bag.

Orr then started walking to the exit without making an attempt to walk towards the cash registers.

Two workers stopped Orr and asked her to return the items and shopping bag.

Orr became verbally and physically aggressive. There was a physical struggle over the bag and Orr spat in one of the workers' faces.

Orr then let go of the items and walked towards another worker, verbally abusing them.

Orr slapped the worker to the face with an open hand, resulting in the woman's glasses coming off her face.

Orr then left the store as security guards approached. The items, which were recovered by staff, were worth $494.50. The whole incident was captured on CCTV footage.

The court heard then about 3.50pm on June 12 this year, Orr entered an Epsom store.

Staff noticed her acting suspiciously and watched her on security cameras. She was seen grabbing a number of fragrance and cosmetic items, before leaving the store without paying.

Staff stopped her in the car park and were able to recover some of the items. A number of items, believed to be worth $400, were still missing.

About an hour later, Orr was captured on CCTV footage entering another store in Bendigo.

She grabbed fragrance items, concealed them under her jumper and inside her handbag, and left the store without paying.

The stolen items have not been recovered and were believed to be worth about $150.

Orr was arrested about 11.30am on July 2 this year and was brought to the Bendigo Police Station.

She told police she had no recollection of the May 16 incident, but made admissions to the rest of the offending.

Orr appeared at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on July 27 where she was granted bail.

The court heard then about 1.40pm on July 31 this year, Orr was captured on CCTV footage entering a Bendigo store.

She grabbed a number of items including clothes and placed them into a green shopping bag.

Orr went to the self-serve counter and purchased a bottle of water but did not pay for the other items.

She left the store but security guards stopped her in the car park and recovered the stolen items.

The court heard then about 10am on August 21 this year, Orr entered a Bendigo store where she grabbed a reusable shopping bag, a handbag, tracksuit pants, and some tops.

She paid for the tops but left without paying for the other items.

Staff stopped her and she presented a receipt for the tops. When questioned about the other items, Orr simply walked away from the workers.

The court heard then about 10.45am on August 24, Orr was captured on CCTV footage entering a Kangaroo Flat store.

She grabbed a Nike jumper and an Adidas jacket, worth $230. Orr entered the change rooms with the items, and left the room wearing the jacket.

Staff questioned Orr but she left after about five minutes. The security tags of the stolen items were left in the change room.

The court heard about 7.45pm on September 6 this year, Orr drove a blue Ford Falcon to a store in Bendigo. She did not have a driver's licence.

Orr grabbed a number of food items and left the store without paying.

A witness saw Orr sit in the driver's seat of the car and turn it on. Orr began headbutting the steering well and the witness called police, believing Orr was drug affected and shouldn't be driving.

Orr lost consciousness after throwing herself between the passenger's seat and the driver's seat.

Police attended and arrested Orr after finding her unconscious in the car. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police searched the Ford Falcon and found a firearm cartridge in the centre console, as well as a pocket knife in the driver's side door.

Orr attended the Bendigo Police Station on September 20 where she was charged and interviewed.

Defence lawyer Madeleine Mein told the court a community corrections order would be an appropriate sentence given Orr's age and drug issues.

A corrections report submitted to the court indicated Orr was unsuitable for a community corrections order.

But Magistrate Rodney Higgins sentenced Orr to three months in jail with a 12-month community corrections order.

Mr Higgins said she needed to follow the orders.

"Corrections says you're rude, that you're not ready to comply, and they think you'll fail," he said. "So if they're right and I'm wrong, you'll breach and I'll send you to jail. I can't be any clearer than that."
