PLAYER points budgets for clubs across the AFL Central Victoria region next year will range from 40 to 50.
Having last month confirmed its salary cap figures for 2021, AFLCV has now locked in all the player points figures for its 36 senior clubs across the Bendigo, Heathcote District, Loddon Valley and North Central leagues.
Of the 36 clubs, 30 have had points increases on their allocations for the 2020 season that never made a start due to COVID-19.
The only clubs without an increase are Castlemaine, Kangaroo Flat, Kyneton, Maryborough, South Bendigo and Marong because they were already at the AFL Victoria maximum of 47 points for this year.
However, AFLCV has been granted approval for long-time Loddon Valley league battler Inglewood to have 50 points available for next year.
The 40 points the Bendigo league's "big four" of Golden Square, Eaglehawk, Sandhurst and Strathfieldsaye will have for next year is the most they have had available since the introduction of the player points system in 2016.
As well as points increases for the majority of clubs in the region, AFLCV has also confirmed that any player who played with a club in 2019 and will remain with that club in 2021 will have this year counted as a season played and therefore qualify for a one point deduction.
For instance, a five-point player in 2019 who would have been a four-point player this year at the same club will become a three-point player in 2021.
"What we're doing is trying to reward loyalty for a player who played with a club in 2019 and is still playing with that club in 2021," AFLCV regional manager Carol Cathcart said on Monday.
"But if someone was recruited to a club for the 2020 season, we won't be providing the point deduction for them."
