The inaugural women's competition was one of the success stories of Bendigo cricket last summer and the BDCA wants to expand the league in season two.
"After the success the competition had last year it's really important that we develop the program even further,'' BDCA president Travis Harling said.
"We've had a couple more BDCA clubs flag interest in joining the league this year and we've had clubs from outside the BDCA show interest in joining the women's league as well.
"It could become a 10-team competition this year which is really encouraging."
Federal member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters has stepped up to be the women's league's major sponsor.
"I was humbled to be asked to sponsor the competition this year,' Chesters said.
"Last year was a great year for women's cricket in Bendigo and this year I can only imagine it's going to get bigger.
"It's exciting that the season is going to go ahead because there was some uncertainty around COVID-19.
"More importantly, it's so good that women can get out and play cricket.
"For years women have been saying "we'd love to play cricket", but now we have a domestic competition based here in Bendigo so they can play."
Chesters praised the BDCA for developing a pathway that allowed female cricketers to play in Bendigo from under-12s through to open-age.
"Cricket has been able to create this pathway seamlessly and smoothly and is a real model for other codes and other sports,'' she said.
"They've made it inclusive along the way and, now with the women's competition, our young superstars can play locally but at the same time know that they're playing at a high level and can still be considered for state and national teams."
The women's competition will be played on Sundays, with Harling confirming the league could be split into two divisions.
"Potentially, we could have a division for the stronger teams that played last year and then a second division for the teams that are new and don't have the experience of playing last season,'' Harling said.
"We'll wait and see how many teams we end up with and then make a decision from there."
