According to the Royal Lifesaving Australia national drowning report, 19 children under the age of five drowned in 2019, with 12 of those in backyard pools.
To help prevent these deaths, Australia's swim schools have joined Poolwerx and Kids Alive to offer free swimming lessons for children under five.

Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre swim school manager Gayle Turner said parents can claim one free, 30-minute swimming lesson for children under five.
"The centre is closed at the moment, but parents can still claim their free lesson and are issued a voucher," Ms Turner said.
Children under three are accompanied by a parent in the water, where they learn how to blow bubbles, with a focus on front to back rotation.
"Every time children go into the water, we take them to an edge, as a point of safety training," Ms Turner said.
Ex-Olympic swimming coach and Kids Alive founder Laurie Lawrence said drowning remains the leading cause of preventable death for children under five.
"During last year's campaign, we received more than 6200 lesson requests, which shows the message of water safety is getting through and parents are understanding how vital it is to learn to swim at an early age."
Poolwerx chief executive John O'Brien said the organisation is committed to water safety and encouraged parents to take advantage of the free lessons.
"We know swimming is a favourite pastime for all Australians, but sadly, we also know toddlers are most at risk of drowning, particularly in backyards," Mr O'Brien said.
"This is why it's crucial to introduce kids to water safety when they are little."
