The Emma Stewart-trained Hurricane Harley produced a career-best win to smash the Lord's Raceway track record for 2150m.
Hurricane Harley sped straight to the front and that's where he stayed, running a 1:52.3 mile rate, 1.3 seconds under Centenario's previous track record.
Short-priced favourite Lochinvar Art started outside of the second row and lost no admirers in running a brave second.
The win boosted Hurricane Harley's prospects for next month's Group One Victoria Cup where he'll clash with Lochinvar Art again and boom pacer Ride High.
"This is as strong a field as you can get and he (Hurricane Harley) just proved tonight if he gets a good draw he's going to be hard to catch (in the Victoria Cup)," winning driver Amanda Turnbull told Trots Vision after the race.
Hurricane Harley looked vulnerable when Lochinvar Art managed to move from the death seat to on his back coming to the home turn.
However, Hurricane Harley kicked strongly in the straight and held off Lochinvar Art by more than one metre.
Code Black finished strongly from the back of the field to grab third.
"I was pretty happy when (Lochinvar Art) was outside me, but when he got in on my back I was pretty worried then, because I knew he would get a good breather,'' Turnbull said.
"I didn't really want to slow my momentum down too much. That was my biggest worry, how much he had left in the tank."
Meanwhile, Chris Svanosio made a successful return to home turf when he trained the quinella of the TLC Carpentry Pace.
Now based at Romsey, Svanosio produced a brilliant drive from back in the field to guide Mister Whickham to victory.
Stablemate Repeat After Me fought on gamely to run second.
The quinella paid a handsome $65.20 on the TAB.
