IT isn’t just the best young trotters that will be in action at tomorrow’s famous Redwood Day at Maryborough. Most of Australia’s best open-age squaregaiters will also be participating on the biggest day on the trotting calendar with a star-studded field to assemble for the $8000 Presidents Trotters Free-For-All (2690m).Australasian record holder Earl Of Mot (barrier two), Inter-Dominion runner-up Will Trapper (five), ultra-consistent Whatsundermykilt (seven) and last week’s Moonee Valley free-for-all winner Viva La Fever (eight) headline a small but select field.Sedgwick star Will Trapper will be making his first appearance since running second to Earl Of Mot in that Australasian record-breaking run at Menangle on June 29, and trainer John Noonan said the five-year-old would have to be at his top to win.“I thought this race would attract a pretty good field and it has,’’ he said.“He’ll run a good race, but wouldn’t want to do anything wrong in that field.’’Sedgwick-based Noonan is looking forward to Will Trapper returning to his home state to race as he reported the lightly-raced gelding found the track fractionally too hard at Menangle.”The track was just too hard for him in Sydney and he jarred up,’’ Noonan said.“I knew during the warm up that he was in trouble and he didn’t run up to top form.“We had to take it easy on him for a few days to get the jarring out of his legs, but I’m happy with him now and he’s back working really well.’’Meanwhile, Wedderburn trotter Danny Bouchea is the $2.70 favourite on TAB Sportsbet for tomorrow’s Victoria Trotters Derby. The Nick Youngson-trained three-year-old is favourite despite drawing inside the second row.
