TIME AT THE TOP - Nathan Thompson's Hawthorn years
HAVING stepped down as Kyneton senior coach, Nathan Thompson will take an active role in helping to find his replacement.
While he is no longer the coach of the seniors, Thompson will remain heavily involved with the Tigers in a support role off the field in 2021 and running the club's junior development program.
"After giving it a lot of consideration, I think what's best for the club is for me to step aside from the senior coaching position and be able to support the club in other ways and get a new voice in," Thompson said on Friday.
"We're very much a country club and I think the type of person who takes over is someone who has a good rapport in building relationships with people.
"We're a club that trains all together with our under-18s, reserves and seniors, so we need a coach who is flexible and someone who doesn't have to reinvent the wheel so to speak, but can bring something fresh to the group and challenge them.
"I know it's a broad term, but in reality, we're really just looking for someone who is a quality person who knows their footy and can educate the guys."
Whoever takes over as Kyneton coach will do so with what Thompson says is a club in its best financial position for years.

The Tigers have worked vigorously over the past two years to slash a debt of around $200,000.
"It's the first time in a long time the club is not owing money to anyone and this is the best position the club has been in financially for maybe 25 years," Thompson said.
"The people who are on the committee are doing a wonderful job.
"The club has gone from having a massive debt to now in a position of strength. From a financial point of view that is no longer a concern for anyone looking to take on a role at Kyneton, which is huge.
"There's a real foundation to build on now. We've got a good group of senior players, we've got a very steady group of people on the committee and some good kids coming through, which is where our growth is going to come from."
As well as a new senior coach, the Tigers also have a vacancy for their senior women's coach.

Following this year's cancelled season, Kyneton and Golden Square will be the only two BFNL clubs that will have new senior coaches in 2021.
