A driver involved in a collision that resulted in the death of a toddler will not be charged after police investigations concluded it was a tragic accident.
Bendigo Highway Patrol Acting Senior Sergeant Dale Simm said the 14-month-old child crawled out of its home near High Street in Kangaroo Flat on Wednesday night and was struck by a car in the slip lane.
The driver, a 56-year-old Maiden Gully man, was in a Holden sedan and believed he had hit an animal.

The scene of a fatal crash in Kangaroo Flat was clear on Thursday morning with no police presence.
Police attended the crash on a service road in High Street, near Kieran Court, at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
A 14-month-old child was critically injured following a collision with a car driven by a Maiden Gully man, 56.

The child later died at hospital.
The driver is assisting police with investigations.
Police will speak to the media on Thursday afternoon.

POLICE are investigating after a child was killed in a Kangaroo Flat collision.
Investigators have been told a car was travelling in the slip lane of High Street about 7.30pm on Wednesday when it was involved in a collision with a 14-month-old child.
The child was critically injured and taken to hospital, but later died.
The driver of the car, a 56-year-old man from Maiden Gully, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquires.
