The 50th anniversary of the carols were to take place on December 20.
Rotary Club of Bendigo committee chairman Colin Nankervis said every effort was made by the organising committee to seek alternative options, but commitments and scheduling for all participants meant a decision had to be made.

"Christmas seems a long way off but it only magnifies the amount of work and planning that goes into this event each year," Mr Nankervis said.
"We conveyed our concerns and possible options to the board and it was decided to postpone the 50th year event until Christmas 2021.
City of Greater Bendigo Brass Band president Trevor Trewartha said the carols are one of the band's biggest events.
"It is disappointing because the band always put in a great effort for the carols," Mr Trewartha said.
"We have about 30 musicians that play at the carols.
"A very important event has been lost this year."
Alternative arrangements were considered, including hosting the carols at the Capital Theatre, or broadcasting the event on television.
Rotary Club of Bendigo president Graeme Clarke said attention now turns to the 2021 event.
"We look forward to the time when we can once again present Carols by Candlelight in Rosalind Park for our residents and the many visitors that travel to the city during the Christmas period," Mr Clarke said.
