This year the theme for National Child Protection Week (6-9 September) is "Putting Children First".
During this week we think of all the children whose families are struggling to provide the safe and nurturing environment they need to thrive.
Many people seeking asylum work in highly precarious casual positions and in service-oriented sectors where we have seen huge job losses.
They have been ineligible for JobSeeker and JobKeeper.
Some don't have access to Medicare.
Their children don't deserve to be left behind and dependent on charity to survive.
Their dignity and safety are important too.
All children are precious.

Statistics are just that
There is an old joke that says 82 per cent of statistics are made up on the spur of the moment, including that one.
It's humorous, but does point out how numbers can be misleading.
There has been optimism about the falling number of COVID-19 cases in Victoria.
I was wondering if some of that was the result of falling numbers of tests?
Apparently so.
I seems that test numbers have fallen by about 50 per cent.
One does not need to be the proverbial rocket scientist to figure that half as many tests will produce half as many positive results.
Don't be deceived.
I know the mortality rate from the virus is not very high, but it can make you very sick.
Very sick indeed. I don't want it.
I hope that if there are relaxations of restrictions, the urge to rush headlong into another, third wave can be tempered by a bit of common sense.
One can only hope.

Lake Weeroona suggestions
We would love to have an outdoor gym.
It's a perfect location - combine fitness equipment with laps of the lake please.
