Table Tennis Victoria made the decision to cancel the events based on the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and unpredictable restrictions related to holding sports events.
Cancelled events:
- Albury/Wodonga Junior
- Albury/Wodonga Senior
- Victorian Open Veterans
- Victorian Open Junior
- Victorian Open Senior
- Albury/Wodonga Veterans
Table Tennis Victoria chief executive officer Richie Hinton said the decision was made reluctantly, but that it was the most appropriate action to take.
"It is with a heavy heart that TTV makes the announcement to cancel all remaining events for 2020, but realistically we were left with no other responsible decision, given the restrictions in place around Victoria and the time-frames involved," Hinton said.
"Although disappointing news for the immediate short-term, we hope that the absence of table tennis events for our Members this year will see a surge in entries when the events calendar re-starts in 2021."
TTV also reminded the table tennis community on the cancellation of the National Championships which were to be held in the state in late 2020.
Cancelling the events were "very hard decisions to make" but were made with the health and safety of all TTV members, staff and the broader community in mind.
Moving ahead TTV looked forward to the day where members and players were able to return to the tables and also compete in tournaments come 2021.year.
