The Mount Alexander COVID-19 Screening Clinic is a collaborative effort involving CHIRP Community Health, Castlemaine Health and Mount Alexander Shire Council.
The clinic is based at CHIRP Community Health's premises at 13 Mostyn Street.
More news: New COVID-19 case numbers remain steady
Appointments are available from 2pm to 4.30pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, and from 10am to 12pm on Sundays.
Drive-through screening is preferred.
The screening clinic will be able to cater for COVID-19 testing pre-surgery, as well as people presenting with symptoms of the virus.
CHIRP Community Health chief executive Dianne Couch said the clinic aimed to make testing more accessible to the region's residents, including during the weekend.
She said July's COVID-19 outbreak at Don KR Castlemaine meant those conducting testing in the community had been pretty busy in the past month.
Ms Couch said the Mount Alexander COVID-19 Screening Clinic would complement the work of the community's GPs, who were conducting testing for registered patients.
Pop-up testing took place in the community following the Don KR Castlemaine outbreak.
CHIRP Community Health encouraged people to book a test if they had any of the following symptoms:
- Loss or changes in sense of smell or taste
- Fever
- Chills or sweats
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Runny nose
Other symptoms such as headache, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea might also be considered in certain circumstances.
Bookings are available by calling CHIRP Community Health on 5479 1000 from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week.
