Haig, 26, has developed into one of the best climbers in the world and has been widely lauded for his domestique work in recent years for Mitchelton-Scott team-mates Adam and Simon Yates.

His best performances in Europe with Mitchelton-Scott were a stage win at the Tour of Pologne in 2017 and fourth placing in last year's Paris-Nice Classic.

The move to Team Bahrain McLaren is expected to offer Haig more opportunities as a general classification rider.

"Although the team is still somewhat in its infancy, the people within the organisation possess an extraordinary amount of drive, talent and expertise which make this such an exciting opportunity to be a part of.

"After five wonderful years at Mitchelton-Scott I am ready for this new challenge and contributing to the journey of Team Bahrain McLaren".

Haig, who has signed a three-year contract with Team Bahrain McLaren, is not riding for Mitchelton-Scott in the Tour de France, which starts this weekend.

He will ride in the Giro d'Italia in October.
