The 1500m event was not expected to suit the staying mare, but she showed her class with a strong finishing burst to claim her first city victory.
With Super Girl needing to lift her rating to force her way into potential Melbourne Cup qualifying events, Wednesday's win was just what Julius was after.
"It was good to see her finish off the race like that,'' Julius said.
"We don't put her under a lot of pressure at home, but her class prevailed. She was the class horse on paper, but the 1500m did look a bit short for her.
"Thankfully, she got the job done and it was more of a relief than anything.
"It's good to get the monkey off our back early this preparation and it gets us a few ratings points which we needed.
"Most importantly, it shows we're on the right path."
Julius originally had an 1800m race at Sandown in two weeks time as a second-up run for Super Girl.
The win at Sandown on Wednesday might change those plans.
"The 1800m race was the plan, but I'll wait and see how she pulls up,'' Julius said.
"We'll get her home and manage her and see what pans out from there."
The mid-range goal for Julius and Super Girl is The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington on October 3.
Super Girl will probably need to win another race before then to get enough ratings points to gain a start in The Bart Cummings.
Wednesday's win was a special moment for the Julius family, with Josh's sister Melissa riding Super Girl to victory.
Super Girl's win was Josh Julius' second metropolitan win as a trainer. His first was Dubai King at Moonee Valley in 2016.
"It's good that Melissa can get the rewards,'' Josh said.
"Hopefully, she can more of a crack now. It's the same as being a trainer, if you don't have the right stock it's hard to win races.
"She rode a winner yesterday (at Ballarat) as well, so it's good to see her get two winners in as many days."
Later in the day, Josh Julius went within a whisker of securing his first city double.
His in-form galloper Highclass Harry finished a close second behind Sukoot in a 1600m event.
Chasing a fourth-straight win, Highclass Harry ran a brave race out in front and was only worn down in the shadows of the post by Sukoot, who had a much easier run behind the leader.
Sukoot and Highclass Harry finished the best part of three lengths ahead of third-placed Lord Markel.
"He was huge,'' Julius said of Highclass Harry.
"It seems to be a bit of a swoopers track today, so for him to lead and be in the finish was a huge effort. He didn't shy away from the fight.
"We were lucky to get one winner and we nearly had a perfect day with two winners...so we go home very happy."
