It is to be commended for having the courage to aim for net-zero emissions by the year 2025 ("Shire to cut all carbon by 2025", 20/8).
As new technologies come on stream, this will become easier and cheaper.

In addition to the emissions savings, the positive example that the target sets to the young people of the shire is perhaps even more important.
It would be interesting to involve young people in finding a way to capture the emissions from the Castlemaine landfill and depot plant.
They will know about methane and how it can be used to generate electricity, as is done in 130 landfills around the country.

Bike riders deserve a track
Having raced motocross in the past and not being able to practice on a private track is very frustrating.
There absolutely has to be a single direction track accommodating all rider levels away from the public domain.

But this sport for as long as I can remember has not been recognised or accommodated.
It's ironic that the majority of bike shops are quite happy to sell you a bike but have next to no input into banding together with riders and councils to provide riding parks at an affordable price.
Where I reside in the far north coast in New South Wales, there is nowhere to free ride unless you have access to a private track.
The riding parks are expensive and usually a good drive away.

There is plenty of Crown land out there, let the riders use it and design a track.
Put a waiver in place an annual fee for usage and track up keep and let the guys and girls ride.
It's an enjoyable sport.

Take action on climate change
Bendigo Council needs to change local laws related to the height of vegetation on vacant land to prevent risk of potential fires and potential for destruction of property from those fires.
Currently there is no height restriction.

The height needs to be approximately 10 centimetres.
With climate warming, scientists predict more potential fires from overgrown, dry vegetation.
Bendigo Council needs to keep pace with change.
