Iso Footy a fan favourite
In these difficult times I congratulate the sports team of the Bendigo Advertiser for the innovative and imaginative ways they have tried to keep readers' attention when there is very little sport to actually report on.

The Iso Football is a great example - an imaginative football season involving local leagues. I have to express one disappointment that has me asking is there no sentiment or compassion in this fantasy league?
The side I've followed for a few years, Inglewood FC, went through the Iso season without a win. Could the authors have allowed their imaginations to run wild and install a headline such as "Inglewood Defeats Flag Favourite" on the back page of the Addy?
Imagine the excitement in footy circles, not to mention those people in Inglewood who have loyally followed the Blues through year after year of disappointment.
I now have to continue lock down morbidly looking at a fantasy football ladder that places my side winless and at the bottom. With a bit of compassion it could have brought so much joy to my solitude.

A Victorian COVID response
My perception is there will be no V-type recovery to the COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria as predicted by David Robertson in the Addy on 20/02. This war has a long way to run.
With the state in its present precarious position there is a need to rise above party politics and augment the skill sets of the inner cabinet and senior bureaucrats who have given it their best shot, and should be complimented for sticking it out under hellish pressure.

On their own though they have not been fully equipped to successfully tackle the monumental nature of the pandemic.
It's time to bring on board fresh ideas and support. My suggestions are:
1 Appoint a czar with appropriate powers - a modern day equivalent of Major General Stretton who oversaw the response to Cyclone Tracy- to oversee and co-ordinate
Victoria's operational state of Emergency response. Going onto a war footing with such a leader and a clear mandate takes the politics out, ensuring greater community acceptance and compliance.

2 Appoint a medical pandemic expert to provide independent thinking and advice.
3 Independently review testing and contact tracing procedures seeking further improvements.
4 Establish a bipartisan co-operative pandemic Cabinet that includes leaders from the private sector.
Naturally the elected government retains overall control. The above arrangements would allow the premier and government to focus more on reviving the state.
It's not too late, lives and businesses are at stake.
