As a hotel owner/operator here in Elmore I will need to fund this by pouring an extra 400 pots which equates to one drink to half of the population here in town.
Alternatively, reducing hours to my existing skeleton staff.
Not whinging, but more notice of this increase would of been handy, especially during the COVID lockdown.

The long term thinking?
It is impossible to understand how anybody could describe the catastrophic health events we have faced since March 2020, which were detailed in my recent Letter to the Editor, but then described by a respondent as giving them the opportunity to "have a good laugh."
I find that offensive and disrespectful to the people who have passed away as one example.
Most speculation has been focused on a vaccination, but we face an equally "off the cliff moment" in approximately six weeks when the planned changes to job seeker and keeper come to fruition, exposing the real rate of unemployment - and it is not going to be pretty.

The virus is not going anywhere by elimination or suppression, so we are going to have to live with this long term, which begs the question, "where is the long term thinking".
About the only thing we do in Australia at the moment is dig up the back yard, and make nothing.
It feels like the people with ideas and the skills have retired early, are mowing lawns opening coffee shops, or roving the country in a caravan.
Before COVID-19 we were heading down the toilet because the only focus was getting the budget back to surplus and cost cutting. Private aged care for example.
More news:
Then " snap back" but if we do not " snap out of it" we will be heading for another disaster, which will make our present troubles pale into insignificance.
Somewhat depressing isn't it?
Time for some action.

Thanks for a job well done
Compliments to the wonderful staff at the "Rezzie Drive-Thru".
Yes, compliments are few and far between these days, whereas complaints are always loud and clear. The staff are a happy, cheerful bunch, even out there on the coldest of days, with a smile for all (under their masks now).
