Children at the Shine Bright Spring Gully Kindergarten created artwork and letters for residents at the Bendigo Retirement Village.
One of the teachers at the centre, Corinna Clough, delivered the 81 letters and drawings to the residents last week.
"The children and families were encouraged to brighten someone's day with a random act of kindness," she said. "They were very excited to participate in it."
Mrs Clough said the original idea for the project came from the City of Greater Bendigo, who have introduced the 'Make Someone's Day' initiative.
Another teacher at the Spring Gully Kindergarten brought the concept to a staff meeting and it all went from there.
"The goal at our kinder is to build stronger connections within the community," Mrs Clough said. "That's exactly what this has done.
"We have given kindness and we have received that kindness in return. These children are making a connection with a group of people they don't know."
Mrs Clough said the kindergarten hoped to build on the relationship once restrictions eased and it was safe for the children to interact with the residents.
"We're very overwhelmed and excited with what this can become,"she said. "After this pandemic is over, we're hoping to stay in contact with the residents and build that relationship.
"Perhaps we'll be able to visit them and maybe sing a song or read a story with them. Maybe we can teach them something or they can teach us something."
The Bendigo Retirement Village said many of the residents did not have family members in Bendigo so the letters and drawings were a lovely gesture that added a bright spark to their day.
Mrs Clough said the experience was also beneficial for the kindergarten students.
"Letter writing is not something that is always done in 2020," she said. "But these residents may not have access to the technology that we have.
"This pandemic has not just brought out a lot of negativity, it has also brought out so much positivity and kindness to one another. That's what we need to see more of."
