Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Tom Fejes said a front would move across Victoria late Thursday night and into Friday morning.
"With that front coming through, it is going to bring some pretty cold air," Mr Fejes said.
"That means we're looking at chances of small hail through showers across most of the state on Friday and Saturday as well, and a chance of some isolated thunderstorms with that cold air."
That cold air could also to bring a dusting of snow to places, although it is not expected to fall quite so low as it did a couple of weeks ago.
Mr Fejes said it was unlikely to be seen below 600 or 700 metres, although there was potential for places like the Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander.
He said snow was most likely late on Friday or early on Saturday morning.
Bendigo is forecast to reach a top of 11 degrees on Friday, while Castlemaine is in for a maximum of 10 degrees, Maryborough 11, and Kyneton a chilly eight degrees.
There was still a possibility of showers in central Victoria on Thursday, Mr Fejes said, with more showers and possible thunderstorms on Friday.

However, he said the showers were not expected to bring more than a couple of millimetres of rain, although thunderstorms could result in isolated heavier falls of up to 10 millimetres.
The showers will continue into Saturday, mostly in the afternoon, and there is a possibility of a few light showers on Sunday.
"Once this low starts to move out to the east of us through Sunday, we've got a ridge of high pressure coming through, and that's going to move very slowly over the top, so reasonably dry conditions expected for early next week and probably even into mid or late next week," Mr Fejes said.
The clear skies mean some frostier mornings are also on the way.
