North Bendigo resident Jan Pagliaro is running for council for a second time - this time, in her home ward.
Ms Pagliaro stood in Lockwood ward in 2016, receiving three per cent of first preference votes.
She lives in the Whipstick ward.
"People appreciate it more as councillors, or anybody in politics, if they're [running] in the same areas as where they live," Ms Pagliaro said.
She cited passion for community as her motivation to run again.
"I don't want to be one of those people that has a lot to say but doesn't do anything about it," Ms Pagliaro said.
"I want to make a difference in council."
Business and industry were among the focal points of her campaign, along with community consultation.
"I'm very interested in hearing what the community has to say," Ms Pagliaro said.
She had already been told smaller communities just outside of Bendigo, within the local government area, felt like they missed out on some of the funding they needed.
Ms Pagliaro said she wanted to be a voice for those communities.
The 61-year-old mother of four and grandmother is a member of the showgrounds committee.
"When I was last running as a candidate for council I promised the showgrounds committee if I didn't become a councillor I would become a committee member," Ms Pagliaro said.
Whether or not she was elected, she wanted to make sure the council could help with the funding needed to keep the showgrounds going.
"There's some upkeep we need money for," Ms Pagliaro said.
She also believed in the potential for the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre to be upgraded to become one of the city's premier aquatic facilities, but with an offering distinct from that of the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre in Kangaroo Flat.
"I'd like to see a lot happen at that centre," Ms Pagliaro said.
She is a Rotarian, and has been involved in LEAD Loddon Murray's community leadership program.
Ms Pagliaro is also a member of the City of Greater Bendigo's Disability Inclusion Reference Committee.
She works as a client liaison officer, facilitating the provision of care at home for older community members in the Bendigo and Castlemaine region.
Ms Pagliaro is studying a Diploma of Community Services.
