The coronavirus restrictions has prevented the university from hosting its usual in-person event at the Bendigo campus.
But the Regional Open Day - covering study at the Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Shepparton, and Mildura campuses - will run on the university's website from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, August 23.
La Trobe Pro Vice-Chancellor (Regional) Guinever Threlkeld said the changes would give more people the opportunity to view what the university had on offer.
"Our staff have worked hard to put together engaging, thoughtful content that really captures the essence of each course, and the exciting careers that await our future graduates," Dr Threlkeld said.
"Participants will hear from the academics who be teaching the subjects, and get a feel for the campus facilities, teaching spaces, student accommodation, and campus grounds."
Senior physics lecturer at the Bendigo campus, Dr Russell Anderson, said staff were excited to share the new skills they have gained through the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are obviously adapting to the new world order," Dr Anderson said. "It might seem like there are some limitations but it turns out we have gotten really good at using technology.
"We have had to get good at it fast and that has made us experts in making engaging remote content.
"We will use those skills as we adapt our Open Day offerings. You're not going to get free lollies but you will be able to sit on the couch and get a personable experience."
Dr Anderson said there would be a combination of pre-recorded videos and live question and answer sessions for prospective students.
Current students have also pre-recorded tours of the university so new students could get a feel for the campuses.
"Of course it's not a substitute for walking around the campus," Dr Anderson said. "But we've gotten quite good at displaying our offerings online."
