Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Association life member Bob Causon was named as BA's Hero of the Month for August.
Causon has been playing for the best part of 50 years and every time he steps onto the court his love for badminton only gets stronger.
"It's a bit special to receive the award as badminton has been one of my main passions for a very long time," he said.
He is known to help out wherever he can and as a friendly face at the association who always welcomes new players and coaches juniors.
"Getting more juniors playing is very important, my hope is that with so many new people in Bendigo that it sparks some interest to play badminton," Causon said.
Like all sports under stage three restrictions, Badminton is currently off limits, but that hasn't stopped the BEBA from preparing for the moment that play can resume.
BEBA secretary Shaye Threlfall said the association will be ready to go once they are allowed to return to the court.
"As an association we will be ready and raring to go again once restrictions are eased," Threlfall said.
Players might not be on the court at the moment, but between when restrictions were lifted and then reinforced, there was a small time-frame where players were able to have a hit.
"We were lucky to be able to get in three fabulous weeks of our pennant season," Threlfall said.
"The players were so happy to have some fun back on the court."
Under normal circumstances it would be around this time of the year when the association would hold its annual veterans tournament.
"Given everything that's going on we had to cancel the veterans tournament all together," Threlfall said.
There are now also plans to hold an international tournament in Bendigo next year, which again was meant to be held this year post-Olympics.
"We will all just hope for the best and at this stage start plans to host it next year," Threlfall said.
