The City of Greater Bendigo took out the Parks and Leisure Australia VIC/TAS Play Space award of excellence for a play space over $500,000, for the Strathdale Park Play Space.
The project began in 2015 and was completed last August.
It included new equipment - including a wheelchair-accessible carousel - a nature play area, a five-way swing and a new pathway painted with native animals.
There is also a water play area, shade shelters, seating, and a gecko decorated with tiles created by students from nearby Kennington Primary School.
"The planning, design and construction of the play space was very much a collaborative effort from staff from throughout the City's operations who take great pride in producing facilities that the community can be proud of," City of Greater Bendigo director of presentation and assets Debbie Wood said.
Ms Wood said the playground was one of the council's most-visited recreation areas.
The playground is now in the running for a national award.
