FIVE-year-old gelding Coming Around won its Victorian city debut for Sutton Grange trainer Brent Stanley on Saturday, saluting in the G.H.Mumm Plate (1410m) at Flemington.
Coming off a second-placing in the Mildura Cup last month in its first start for Stanley, former Western Australia galloper Coming Around ($3 favourite) proved too strong for the field of nine, winning by 1.25 lengths from Laburnum with jockey Liam Riordan aboard.
"I thought it was a really good win. I think he still has a fair bit of improvement in him as he gets out to the further distances. It was a dominant win to say that he is a good horse. He beat some good horses today, he put them away quite well and there's more upside for him," Stanley said.
Stanley also saddled up 2018 Bendigo Cup winner Red Alto ($61), which ran fifth.
"I thought it was a sensational run and I think the old boy is back with plenty more wins left in him," Stanley said.
Meanwhile, the Bendigo Jockey Club will host a nine-race program on Sunday, with the first at midday.
