Visit Victoria chief executive Brendan McClements confirmed the cancellation in a short statement this afternoon.
"We know this will be disappointing for many Victorians however the health and safety of the community is our number one priority," he said.
"White Night Regional is a wonderful celebration of the arts, culture and creativity and we will keep the community updated on any future plans."
More news:
The event was scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 10.
White Night came to Bendigo for the first time in 2018 and was branded a 'major success' by City of Greater Bendigo mayor Margaret O'Rourke.
"People were overwhelmed, I think," she said in the days after huge crowds descended on Bendigo's city centre for the light and art show.
"It was an extraordinary event."
All of the city's hotels were booked out and restaurants and late-night eateries were inundated by hungry festival goers in what became a bumper weekend of trade.
White Night's cancellation comes as cases across central Victoria continue to surge.
Greater Bendigo's new case numbers this week have been the highest ever and there are now 48 people known to still be recovering from the virus.
Nine new cases were added to the area's tally this afternoon.
