Crews were called to the scene at Anzac Hill Road just before 3pm.
Five CFA vehicles and two Fire Rescue Victoria crews responded to the call out.
It took more than two hours to free the dog, which was eventually freed at 5.15pm.
The dog was uninjured after the incident.
A CFA spokesman said another dog had previously fallen down the same mine shaft.
