A V/LINE staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, but had no contact with passengers while potentially infectious.
The trainee driver attended one of V/Line's operations buildings on Friday July 24. The building has since been deep cleaned.
V/Line has not confirmed where the worker is based.
He developed symptoms that afternoon, at which point he left work straight away and went to get tested.
He has not returned to work after the test, and is now isolating.
V/Line was informed of the positive result on Tuesday afternoon.
A V/Line spokesperson said the trainee driver had not contact with passengers while potentially infectious at work.
The driver's cabin on a V/Line train is separate to the passenger area.
"We have taken immediate steps based on DHHS advice to identify close contacts and ensure any potentially infected areas are clean and safe for customers and staff," the spokesperson said.
