O'Sullivan, who runs SingStudio, said the online workshop will give central Victorian performers a chance to get tips from a highly-experienced singer in Ahern.

"About a year ago, when Bendigo Theatre Company was running workshops, I thought I might do it but (BTC's) season was already planned out," O'Sullivan said. "So I thought why not put it under my own umbrella and give everyone something to smile about.

"There's nothing on (for performers) because we cant do shows. So this is a way of getting together, have a bit of fun and learn a few things."

O'Sullivan was forced to close her business in March when the coronavirus state of emergency was declared.

"It was concerning (to close). It's not our primary income but it is something we rely on as a family of five," she said. "But singing is a way of venting and letting go. It's hard for everyone during coronavirus. Even last week, students were in tears as they let it out."

O'Sullivan began teaching students again last week through online video conferences.

"(There are about) 27 students who meet with me," O'Sullivan said. "It's good fun (doing lessons online), it takes away some anxiety for people performing one-on-one with someone but that person-to-person connection is sometimes lost.

"It takes a good teacher to reach through the lens and still get attention of the person at the other end."

Ahern is well known as a vocal coach and has toured regularly as a backing singer with John Farnham, Tina Arena, Anthony Callea and Guy Sebastian.

"She is a very accomplished and a very grounded, humble, kind and generous person," O'Sullivan said. "When do you get exposure to someone like her who had decades of experience in the industry?

"Some of my students see her now for that next-level mentoring. Susie's skills and experience, where I can bring some (people's voice) out, she can expand and develop it further."

Ahern said the coronavirus pandemic had been a challenge for everyone.

"In the first part of the pandemic I watched my touring life disappear within days," she said. "Since then I have done a few radio and streaming gigs, I am one of the lucky ones.

"My teaching has changed tack. I've always done a portion of my teaching online but now it's (online) with all my students.

Ahern said staying creative during isolation was important for everyone.

"The restrictions imposed in the pandemic have actually helped some of my students to really focus on improving skills," she said. "It's super important for creative humans to continue being creative. We all need to feel that we are building something."
