Inglewood District Health Service chief executive Tracey Wilson said in a video on Facebook on Monday night that a suspected case identified in the town on Saturday was a false positive result.
"I've been advised this evening that the person was what's known as a false positive," she said in the video.
"What that means is they do not have COVID-19. Their tests have been re-done today and have been confirmed that they do not have COVID-19.
"I hope the person who is obviously unwell at the moment feels better very soon and obviously this news is a huge relief for their friends and family."
Ms Wilson said she hoped the community would rally around and support one another.
"As a community, we know it is a concerning time but we need to remember to look after one another and be kind to one another," she said.
"There has been quite a lot of concern and angst and upset and anger. We can't have that. We need to look after one another."
Ms Wilson also reminded residents of the importance of hygiene during the coronavirus pandemic.
"This a very contagious disease," she said. "The fact this person doesn't have COVID-19, doesn't it mean isn't here or can't get into our community.
"We need to follow all restrictions into the future. wash your hands thoroughly using warm soapy water for 20 seconds.
'If wearing a disposable face mask, dispose of it correctly into a bin and wash your hands. If wearing cloth masks make sure to wash them regularly.
"Keep your distance and if you are feeling unwell go for a COVID-19 test."
