CASTLEMAINE is the first team to sit at the top of the BFNL's 17-under netball ladder this year.
The Magpies made a strong start to the nine-round season on Saturday, defeating Maryborough 58-20 at Princes Park.
Last year's 17-under premiers Sandhurst picked up from where it left off, opening its campaign with a 52-41 win over Strathfieldsaye at the QEO.
South Bendigo was also victorious, beating Eaglehawk 47-38, while the Kangaroo Flat vs Golden Square game was postponed due to COVID-19 precautions.
