There were no new cases in central Victoria today, health authorities say.
5pm, Saturday
CENTRAL Victoria has recorded two new COVID-19 cases since Friday, including the Bendigo nursing home staffer who contracted the virus.
The second case was recorded in the Macedon Ranges Shire, just-released Department of Health and Human Services data shows.
It brings Central Victoria's total active cases to eight, all of which are in the Bendigo and Macedon Ranges municipalities.
The new figures show that Bendigo's Bethlehem Mercy nursing home is among three new nursing homes to report cases overnight, with another in Ballarat and in Melbourne.
Health authorities have advised that as more interviews are undertaken throughout the day outbreak totals can change.
Three deaths have now been reported in today's statistics, though their location within Victoria has not been disclosed.
The deaths included a woman aged in her 90s, a woman in her 80s and a man in his 80s. To date, 35 Victorians have died from coronavirus.
Earlier
Victoria has recorded another 217 COVID-19 cases overnight, bringing the total number to 5353 cases overall as multiple aged care sites record cases among staff.
Eleven of those cases are connected with known outbreaks.
Two more people have died.
Health authorities are expected to release a breakdown of any new cases in central Victoria later today but late yesterday a Bendigo aged-care facility reported one of its staff members had contracted the virus.
Two regional aged-care homes have had infections - the one in Bendigo and another in Ballarat.
Authorities believe only a single staff member has been infected at each site, health minister Jenny Mikakos said.
"My counterpart in the federal government, minister (Greg) Hunt has announced they will be providing masks now to all nursing homes in Victoria, including in regional locations, to assist health care workers ... and residents safe," she said.
More news:
Some of today's new cases have been recorded in regional Victoria, authorities have so far revealed.
Ms Mikakos said there were now 60 testing sites in regional Victoria and said people outside lockdown areas should not become complacent.
"All of those details on testing sites are available on the DHHS (Department of Health and Human Services) website," she said.
Premier Daniel Andrews said it was not only frail, ageing Victorians who were at risk.
"There is a growing number of people around the world who were otherwise healthy, but who passed away and they were from across the age spectrum," he said.
Mr Andrews warned that this is not a normal weekend and people need to stay at home if they can to reduce the risk of transmission.
More to come.
