The aged care centre in Golden Square confirmed the positive test on Friday in a letter to families.

It said Mercy Health had contacted the Department of Health and Human Services about the case.

"We are undertaking contact tracing as a matter of urgency to determine who, if anyone, may be at risk," the letter read.

Mercy Health confirmed the site would undergo a deep cleaning as a result of the positive case.

The centre asked residents' families and friends to avoid the home while contact tracing took place.

"We may be able to make an exception if they are extraordinary circumstances on compassionate grounds, as determined on a case by case basis," the letter said.

"We appreciate this advice may be alarming. Please be assured we are doing everything to ensure the safety of your loved ones, staff and the community."

The Department of Health and Human Services could not confirm if the case at Mercy Health Bethlehem was one of the three active cases listed in Greater Bendigo.

Data released on Friday showed six active cases in central Victoria - the three listed in Greater Bendigo and another three in the Macedon Ranges.

There are no active cases in the Campaspe, Mount Alexander, Loddon, Central Goldfields, and Gannawarra Shires.

Victoria recorded 428 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. Three more have people died from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 death toll in Victoria to 32.

There are 122 Victorians receiving treatment for COVID-19 in hospital, with 31 of those in intensive care.

Case numbers are subject to change, as DHHS contact tracers follow up cases and analyse data.

The department said the residential location was the residential address provided when the case was notified.

It was not where they were infected and may not be where the case currently resides.
