The former South Australian and Ballarat trainer has notched up three winners from his last eight starters, or four from his last 13, stretching back to Getting Leggie's emotional victory in the $135,000 Brierly Steeplechase at Warrnambool in May.
Smart added to his recent run of good fortune courtesy of a victory to Silent Command over 1528m on a heavy 9 at Moonee Valley on Sunday.
The five-year-old gelding's win provided a chance for reflection on the rewarding move to Bendigo from his former base at Ballarat for the accomplished young trainer.
Silent Command was the first of Smart's winners to be trained in Bendigo, when he won at Murray Bridge last August.
The 2017 Listed Morphettville Guineas winner was the beneficiary of a brilliant front-running ride by talented apprentice Lachlan Neindorf, who like Smart, has made the move across the border from South Australia, for an initial three-month period.
The Bendigo trainer said there was no happier person when last Sunday's meeting was transferred from Ballarat to The Valley.
"I was rapt to win one at The Valley ... we went down pretty confident," he said.
"They put up $26 there on Friday night, so the owners have had a nice fill up.
"His run first-up at Murray Bridge, he should have won. He got flattened a couple of times, but still picked himself up and hit the line with confidence. So we were fairly confident."
Testament to his ability, all four of the gelding's career wins from 26 starts have been in metropolitan races, including two early in his career at Morphettville.
Sunday's win lifted his career earnings to $155,000.
"He's been a ripper horse for me, winning the Morphettville Guineas as a three-year-old and some other nice races along the way," Smart said.
"He's bloody tough. The jockey said on Sunday, he thought he was gone on the turn, but he just dug deep and found another gear.
"(Neindorf) is a ripper, he rode Silent Command when he finished second in the Gawler Cup and he should have won if it wasn't for my bad instructions.
"The stable is in pretty good form at the minute, so we'll try and make hay while the sun shines."

Smart said Silent Command would likely return to Moonee Valley in three weeks for a benchmark 78 mile race, while another crack at the Gawler Cup later in the year was a consideration.
Meanwhile, Smart said all was on track for Getting Leggie's tilt at next month's $125,000 Crisp Steeplechase (4200m) at Sandown.
Potential runners for the stable later this week include Trumpsta at Geelong on Friday, Go Ballistic in South Australia on Saturday, and Mr Coyne over the jumps at Pakenham on Sunday.
