The league made the announcement on Thursday night after consultation with its clubs.
"Even though the majority of clubs were wishing to proceed, the league had to take into consideration all clubs' concerns along with the possible safety ramifications of our region's communities," a statement released by the CVFLW said.
"In this unprecedented situation, we believe this is the most responsible decision based on what is best for our clubs, our region and for the integrity of our competition."
The 2020 competition would have been the CVFLW's third season.
Also this year Kerang was set to join the competition which would've increased the number of teams within the league to seven (Kangaroo Flat, Strathfieldsaye, North Bendigo, Golden Square, Kyneton and Eaglehawk).
