That day finally arrived for Bendigo Golf Club member Anne Griffiths on the 110m par three 17th.
"I just hit my ball and it was going straight towards the green and as I bent down to pick up my tee my playing partners said it had gone in the hole," Griffiths said.
"I didn't think it had gone in but I was certain it would still be up there on the green close to the pin.
"To my amazement, we walked up to the green and there it was in the hole. It was a big thrill."
The ace on the 17th was the 25-handicapper's first hole-in-one.
"The more I reflect on it, the better it gets," Griffiths laughed.
The 17th at Bendigo looks straight forward on the tee, but a small green that's near a water hazard demands an accurate shot otherwise trouble isn't far away.
Griffiths has been around golf her whole life, with her earliest memories playing with her entire family at Neangar Park Golf Club.
During her time as a player she has enjoyed some of Australia's and the world's best courses.
However, lush fairways and top grade greens are not the only reasons for playing, it's the friendships.
"There is such a strong level of companionship and camaraderie among players."
