Bendigo, Melbourne and Wodonga student representative bodies will merge to form one new group at the start of 2021.
Representatives say the change will bring a united voice for all La Trobe students.
Bendigo Student Association president Will Griffin said the change would allow the groups to share services, and better support regional campuses such as Shepparton and Mildura.
"If we've got one united student voice that's actually beneficial for all La Trobe students. That's one of our key decision makers to why we've done it," he said.
Mr Griffin said services for Bendigo students would be no different, but the management might change a bit.
He said the change would streamline the association's services such as advocacy, financial counselling and legal services.
OTHER NEWS:
Mr Griffin confirmed the new association would have campus specific representatives.
Former BSA president Katherine Bowden said she saw a risk of decreased funding for regional and rural services in the amalgamation.
She said regional student associations played a vital role in representing the unique needs of students on these campuses.
