It comes after the COVID-19 forced more people to work from home, and take up financial support measures such as early access to superannuation.

Accountants will conduct nearly all tax return consultations online, as measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 continue.

Egan Taylor Accountants & Business Advisors director Glenn Taylor said he expected a high demand to start from July 1.

Mr Taylor said demand for both business and personal tax returns would hit the business.

He said people might encounter complexities around super withdrawals, redundancies and payouts, and home office expenses.

"We've actually communicated with our existing client base, saying, 'This year more than ever you really need to see us'," he said.

"A lot of that stuff is pretty complicated. At the moment every dollar is pretty important to us [all].

"People are going to want to make sure they can get the maximum deduction they're entitled to."

MGR Accountants senior client manager Annemarie McClure said people were booking in earlier than normal to do their tax returns.

Mrs McClure said most clients would have extra deductions to claim, given they were working from home.

She said it wasn't as simple as claiming all your heating, or electricity costs, people had to show they followed the Australian Taxation Office guidelines.

But Mrs McClure said the bigger deductions she expected would translate into larger client refunds.

She advised those planning tax returns to contact their accountant, and keep a record to substantiate claims.

Mr Taylor advised people not to rush their tax return, but gather all the information they can, thinking about home office set ups, and the like.

He said phone appointments meant people needed to be more organised than normal, because accountants could not sit there and sort through their receipts.
