ONE of Australia's brightest young basketball prospects has committed to lining up with Bendigo Spirit during the 2020-21 WNBL season.
Paige Price, a gold medallist with Australia's under-15 side at the FIBA Women's Oceania Championships in 2018, has signed a one-season deal to play in Bendigo, where she will be reunited with her former national coach Tracy York.
The 17-year-old guard already boasts an impressive basketball resume, having captained Australia at the Oceania championships and being selected in the tournament's All-Star Five.
She followed up with another gold medal with the Australian Sapphires (under-17) team at the 2019 Oceania championships.
Her contributions at those championships have certainly gone unnoticed.
"Paige will be a great addition for our squad," York said.
"She is an elite guard blessed with height at her position and a skill set that has already drawn international attention.
"This will be a great opportunity for Paige in her development and will also showcase how the Spirit will continue to develop as a club providing those opportunities."
Price, the daughter of former Bulleen Boomer Simone Price (nee Gloster), has gained previous exposure to the WNBL as a development player with Melbourne Boomers.
Her stay in Bendigo will be a short one, as the versatile 6'2" guard looks to hone her craft before moving to the United States, where she will become the first Australian to be a Hoosier at the University of Indiana next year.
Price has jumped at the chance to be part of an exciting and young Spirit in 2020-21.
"I have spent a lot of time training and playing at Bendigo throughout my Vic Country experience, so I know the place well and feel comfortable in the environment and am excited to be back in Vic Country," she said.
"There are no guarantees or promises from Tracy, but it is up to me now to earn any minutes.
"I see the move to Bendigo as the next progression in my career.
"I've loved Tracy's coaching style when I played under her for Australia at the FIBA Oceania tournament, so I am confident I will make the most of this opportunity."
Price joins the already signed Tessa Lavey, Carley Ernst, Demi Skinner, Alicia Froling and Cassidy McLean on the roster.
